Inglorious Basterds

Finally managed to watch the new Tarantino movie “Inglorious Basterds” tonight. I really enjoyed it. Great dialogue and performances especially by Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa. Looking forward to see more of him in international productions, which seems to be happening soon.

Although I already knew before that parts of the movie would be in German and French, I wasn´t expecting that much. Being German it´s not a big deal for me, but for Hollywood it sounds a bit like a box office killer and I´m surprised that they let Tarantino get away with this. But then, if anyone could pull this off in Hollywood it would be Tarantino, I guess.

RunPee – the perfect movie companion

If you´re the type of person that has to go to the bathroom during a movie, RunPee.com is the perfect site for you. It tells you when there´s a good time to sneak out to the bathroom and you won´t miss that much, e.g. there´s not much talking or happening during a scene.  RunPee even tells you how much time you have and, if you like, what is happening during that time.

Here´s an example of “Angels and Demons” which so far has one good “pee moment” at 1 hour and 10 minutes. Considering that this movie runs 2 hours 18 minutes you might need that break…

World Builder

A strange man uses holographic tools to build a world for the woman he loves.

Remember the short film 405 a few years ago? For its time it had great computer generated effect, considering it was done ordinary desktop computers with off the shelf software. One of the guys behind 405, Bruce Branit, has spent the last few years on the production of Word Builder as a side project.  The film was a one day shoot that took two years to finish the post production on. For a look inside World Builder there´s an interview up on CG Channel. It´s a bit technical here and there but still interesting to read.

Alicia Keys and Jack White’s Bond Song for Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace Song

Being a big White Stripes fan, I was quite excited when I heard that Jack White & Alicia Keys will write and perform the new James Bond song “Another Way To Die” for Quantum of Solace. Although the movie is still away a few months the song already found its way online. You can listen to it on Firstshowing.net. They don´t seem to like it very much, but I think it sounds quite good and probably even better in the movie. What do you think?

Ennio Morricone photo essay

Time Magazine put together this nice photo essay a while ago about the highlights of famous composer Ennio Morricone´s career. If you haven´t heard of Ennio Morricone before I´m sure you´ll recognise his music at least. If not, than you´re probably not really into movies…

Movie warning: I was a Swiss Banker

Swiss Banker
Don´t ask me how I found this movie. I haven´t watched it and probably never will. Just read the synopsis and you´ll know why:

Roger is a young, dashing banker full of boyish self-confidence. He has a highly successful business, smuggling black money across the border for reinvestment. But then a split second reaction changes his entire life. Flagged down one day by a customs officers, Roger loses his cool and makes a run for it. His only means of escape: diving headlong into Lake Constance, thereby catapulting himself out of his life as a banker and into a totally new universe, populated with shy mermaids decked out in Lara Croft gear, and cunning magpie witches in helicopters. As in a Grimm Brothers fairy tale, Roger has to pass three tests to cast off the witch´s curse and find happiness. His underwater journey through an intoxicatedly beautiful Switzerland is enhanced by the enchanting songs of sirens – a fable full of lust for life and love.

It starts off quite well actually, but then mermaids, Lara Croft gear and witches…no thanks. At least it´s a Swiss production and wasn´t funded with German taxpayer money.

and if you still don´t have enough a trailer with English subs here. Enjoy.
