Hot in NZ

For almost a week now it’s been hot, humid and sticky here in Auckland like never before. It almost feels like you’re in Southeast Asia. Normally, the New Zealand summer can be quite warm but it always cools down during the night. Not so right now. And since it’s really hard to get the heat out of the house at night I didn’t get much sleep this week. At least we’ve got our air conditioning now at work which turned it from the worst place to be in summer to the most comfortable place to be right now.

  1. To begin, hello, I’m an absolute infant of webdesign and building…so if you have anything to say about my website to help me….I thank you.

Alex, I know this was quite a few months ago, but now that the US is at the end of its summer you might have seen on the news that we, too, have had unusually hot weather. Last three days in NYC have been 100+ which is not normal. Was there any higher than normal national concern about global warming in NZ last Feb? Ex US Vice Pres, Al Gore, created a movie called “Inconvenient Truth” about global issues/warming. Did you see it by chance? I didn’t yet, but was just wondering what others are thinking about. Thanks

    Hi Louis,

The temperatures in the NZ summer are still quite moderate compared to New York. Most of the time it’s somewhere between 70 and 86. It was just the humidity which was a bit unusual last summer. Since NZ is an island it cools down a lot at night during the summer. If this wouldn’t be the case it would probably be worse than on the Northern hemisphere because the sun is much stronger down there.

I’m back in Germany now and after the record summer in 2003, this July has been the hottest that we ever had in Germany. So things are pretty much the same here temperature wise as in then US.

I haven’t seen the Inconvenient Truth yet but it looks definitely worth watching.

Nice website by the way. It’s easy to navigate and also quite well optimized for search engines, which is a very important factor these days.

    Hi Alex,
Thanks for the compliment about my site. I don’t know anything about how to “optimize” a website…though I’ve been reading a lot about it these days….so you can imagine your comments make me happy!
Also, I’ve been involved with http://www.newnycrossroads.com for some time now and since you are someone who has definitely had the “immigrant” experience….would you mind checking it out and if so inclined….share a story?? I think anything you can share on the topic will be of great value to our visitors. Also check out the film festival coming up. Turkey is the place!! I’m rather fond of this website…not from a design standpoint, but because I get to be part of the momentum of unification of people. “Oneness” was part of the title of our first book…and continues to ring true in all that we take on for this project. Be well, and thanks, again!
